Touchscreen Toolkit for LabVIEW

Configuration Options

touchTablet3The Touchscreen Toolkit for LabVIEW provides several methods for adding multi-touch and gesture recognition to you LabVIEW application.  All touch coordinates and gestures are reported to the calling LabVIEW application via user events.  During initialization, the calling LabVIEW application sends a user event reference to the toolkit which is used to send event based data upon any touch.  Please refer to help documentation for details of the toolkits API.

ArchitectureWindows 7 and 8: There are 2 methods to implementing multi-touch with gesture recognition.

1)      For Windows Touch API WM_GESTURE messages, the Toolkit’s WTG_GestureFilter.vi can be used to enable the default Windows Zoom, Rotate, and Pan gestures.  These provided limited functionality and when enabled, do not report actual touch coordinates.  Zoom and rotate gestures are independent in that once a zoom is started, changing the distance between the two touch points does not zoom.  And once a zoom is started, rotating fingers does not cause rotation.

2)      For the custom Aledyne Gesture Engine, the Toolkit’s WTG_GestureFilter.vi can be used to disable Windows gestures and enable individual Aledyne gestures, such as swipe, zoom, rotate, and pan.  These gestures have a little more flexibility than the build in Windows gestures and still report touch coordinates to the LabVIEW application because the gesture recognition engine uses the Windows WM_TOUCH message.

Windows XP: Implementing touch in Windows XP can be done using the UPDD device driver from Touch-Base (sold separately).  In conjunction with the driver, the Touchscreen Toolkit can be used to enable reading of touch coordinates and gesture recognition using the Aledyne Gesture Engine from compatible touch monitors.

Windows Embedded Standard 7 (WES7):  WES7 is used on cDAQ-9138 and cDAQ-9139 CompactDAQ Stand-Alone chassis which do not include the Windows 7 Pen and Touch interface.  Therefore, the UPDD driver must be used to enable touch support on these targets.
